MONTANA
Missouri River Expeditions,
Tim Plaska, 3 Lava Mountain Court North, Clancy, MT 59634, 406/ 449-6446

The Missouri River below Holter Dam in Montana is one of the premier dry fly streams in the West. It is a large, easily waded stream with perfect habitat for growing the aquatic insects that make the trout fat and sassy.

Our recommended guide is Tim Plaska of Missouri River Expeditions. Chris and I found ourselves in extremely capable hands and we caught more fish because of it. Tim is mild mannered person who enjoys nothing more than seeing his clients catch fish.

"The Inside Angler" filed a two-part update report on the Missouri appearing successively in Volume IX, Number 1 and 2, January 2000 and March 2000.

OREGON
Big K Guest Ranch,
20020 Highway 138 West
Elkton, OR 97436, (800/390-2445) (541/584-2295)

The lower Umpqua River from near Roseburg downstream is one of finest smallmouth streams in the West. This pristine part of the river also hosts a strong run of American shad and is a thoroughfare for steelhead and salmon in season. The best stretch of river to fish is that portion that runs through The Big K Guest Ranch near Elkton.

The Inside Angler" has made two reports on the fishing on the lower Umpqua River with the latest appearing in Volume IX, Number 2, March 2000.

OREGON
Yamsi Ranch, The Hydes, PO Box 371, Chiloquin, OR 97624, (541/783-2403)

Yamsi Ranch is located in southern Oregon on the headwaters of the Williamson River. This working cattle ranch has about twelve miles of the upper Williamson River flowing through the property plus a 300 acre lake. about six miles offer excellent fishing for wild rainbow and brook trout. Rainbows measuring more than thirty inches have been caught and released and the largest brook trout grow to twenty-five inches, perhaps the largest stream-dwelling brookies in the West.

Our original report on Yamsi Ranch was in VOL II, #2, March 1993. An update report was filed in VOL VIII, #1, January 1999.

North Platte Lodge, Bret and Candy Van Rennselaer,
PO Box 105
Alcova, WY 82620, 307/ 237-1182

Most anglers are unaware of the excellent fishing on the North Platte River in Wyoming below Alcova Reservoir. During three days of fishing early last October, Chris and I caught healthy cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout measuring up to twenty inches and larger without much competition from other anglers.

The North Platte Lodge, located a short distance downstream of Alcova Reservoir, owns a good stretch of river and has a lease on most of the fourteen miles downstream not flowing through public lands.

The Inside Angler reported on North Platte Lodge in the September 2000 issue.
